New Postal RegulationsMAJOR CHANGES TO SELF-MAILERS

In order to qualify for post office discounts the following regulations are effective immediately:

  1. Letter size: The new maximum size of a self mailer and or letter will be 6″ x 10.5″, down from 6.125″x 11″. There are no changes on the maximum weight of 3 oz and the aspect ratio 1.3 to 3.5. This means in order to qualify for the “letter” postage rate you must conform to the new size.
  2. Addressing self mailers: The address can no longer be on the side created by the final fold.
  3. Folding self mailers:

Horizontal folds–Final fold must be on the bottom of the piece when looking at the address.
Z (accordion)– Folded pieces are NOT allowed.
Vertical folds– Final fold must be on the lead (right) edge.
Short panels– Must fold from right around to the back of the piece.

MAILING SURVEY

  1. Are you doing fewer–or smaller–mailings due to postal regulations and/or rates?
  2. Have you had an important mailing returned because you were not aware of a change in regulations?
  3. What is your single biggest concern around doing mailings for your business?

This is fantastic information. Thanks for being proactive on this topic.

Thanks for keeping us up to date! I can’t believe we can’t mail a Z-fold anymore…some clients are going to have a hard time understanding why. Is it the equipment or something?

      Michelle,
Apparently the post offices equipment runs smoother and more efficiently when self mailers are closed on the bottom.
